“Becoming a caregiver is an awesome responsibility and an automatic departure from the familiar. Routines must change, emotions become fluid, and uncertainty is a certainty. As caregivers, we must accept a change in lifestyle and accept the role of a servant. Servanthood is not for the meek at heart.  Caregivers have been called for a special purpose. This calling means that we are covered by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. We experience His abundance of mercy, peace, and love given to us, and our loved ones. Whether it’s caring for the well being of a child, a sick person, a disabled person, or an elderly person, the role of a caregiver can be a daunting task.

 

Jean Moody-Williams reflects on her journey of becoming the primary caregiver to the woman who once cared for her.  It was a difficult turn of events when Jean watched her mother transition from a vicariously independent woman to one who was dependent on her only daughter’s support for the most basics of life.  Although dependent and quite ill, this marvelous woman never lost sight of the victory and triumph promised to all that believe!
